At Texas A&M Small Animal Teaching Hospital, cardiologists successfully treated Sissy, a service dog diagnosed with a life-threatening third-degree AV block that caused her heart rate to drop from 120 beats per minute to just 35 bpm. This condition can lead to severe health issues or death due to failed electrical signals in the heart. The team used a pacemaker to restore her heart function, significantly improving her quality of life. Sissy's owner, Robert "Bobby" Harrod, sought help after a routine check-up revealed her condition and received crucial support from the Veterinary Valor Program and Heart Trust, which helped cover costs. Harrod expressed gratitude for the assistance, highlighting the vital role of community support for service animals and the collaborative efforts to ensure their health and well-being.
Dextronix has always been proud to work with the folks at TAMU and their cardiology program and stories like this are a big part of why we love what we do.
